About 0.50–0.60% carbon and 0.30–0.90% manganese are present in Carbon Steel EN9, also referred to as 070M55. There are also trace amounts of silicon and very few other impurities. Depending on the heat treatment, it has a yield strength of about 400 MPa and a tensile strength between 600 and 850 MPa. The material is moderately ductile and has good wear resistance. To improve its mechanical qualities, EN9 can be tempered and hardened. It can be used in demanding mechanical applications because it is machinable and provides reasonable weldability with the right preheating and post-weld treatment.
