Copper-nickel alloys are usually made up of 90/10 (90% Cu, 10% Ni) or 70/30 (70% Cu, 30% Ni) compositions. These rings have very good mechanical properties like tensile strength of 275–500 MPa and good ductility, with elongation values of about 30–45%. They show excellent resistance to biofouling, stress corrosion cracking, and erosion even at high-velocity seawater. Nickel presence increases the strength of the material along with corrosion resistance, whereas iron and manganese additions enhance overall performance, particularly in sea atmospheres and aggressive media.
