High Carbon Steel Plates consist of 0.60% to 1.00% of carbon, in addition to manganese (0.30–0.90%) and minute amounts of silicon, sulfur, and phosphorus. This composition gives more hardness and strength. Mechanically, they have high tensile strength (about 800–1000 MPa), good abrasion resistance, and low ductility. They are capable of being hardened by heat treatment using quenching and tempering. But because of their brittleness over low carbon steel, they are less ductile and have lower weldability. All these characteristics render them ideal for use in their applications where durability and abrasion resistance are needed.
