IRSM 41-97 With a controlled carbon content, Corten Steel is a corrosion-resistant steel alloy made of silicon, nickel, phosphorus, chromium, and copper (~0.25–0.55%). It offers a tensile strength of approximately 480–600 MPa and a minimum yield strength of 340–450 MPa. Painting is not necessary because the alloy creates a protective oxide layer on the surface that prevents corrosion from the atmosphere. For extended periods of use in outdoor settings, it retains its strength and integrity. In addition to having moderate ductility and machinability, the steel can be welded and is appropriate for prefabricated or manufactured structural designs.
