Monel 400 is a solid-solution nickel-copper alloy consisting of around 67% nickel and 23% copper with small quantities of iron, manganese, carbon, and silicon. It provides a tensile strength of approximately 550 MPa, a yield strength of 170 MPa, and good ductility with an elongation of approximately 35%. This alloy has fine mechanical properties over a broad range of temperatures. Monel 400 tubes are very resistant to seawater, steam, and acid environments, and are thus used for chemical and marine conditions. The material is not magnetic and offers superior resistance to stress-corrosion cracking and pitting.
