Monel is a nickel-copper alloy that normally contains about 67% nickel and 23% copper with minor portions of iron, manganese, and silicon. The alloy has good mechanical properties, such as tensile strength of about 550 MPa, yield strength of approximately 170 MPa, and elongation of 35%, for strength and flexibility. Monel plates and sheets retain properties over a broad range of temperatures and show special resistance to corrosion in seawater, acid, and alkaline media. Their non-magnetic quality and weldability make them very suitable for structural and pressure-carrying parts where severe conditions prevail.
