SMO 254, referred to as 6Mo, is an austenitic stainless steel alloy with high molybdenum (6%), nitrogen, and chromium content. It has a typical composition of 20% Cr, 18% Ni, 6% Mo, 0.2% N, and low carbon. The alloy provides tensile strength of approximately 650 MPa, yield strength of 300 MPa, and elongation of 35–40%, which makes it extremely strong and ductile. The properties provide exceptional resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride stress corrosion cracking, which ensures SMO 254 foils are highly compatible in aggressive environments.
