Stainless Steel 321 is stabilised by the addition of 17–19% chromium, 9–12% nickel, and titanium (at least five times the carbon content). By adding titanium, chromium carbide precipitation during welding is avoided. It has a yield strength of 205 MPa, a tensile strength of roughly 515 MPa, and an elongation of roughly 40%. Up to 870°C, SS 321 retains its mechanical integrity. It has outstanding oxidation and intergranular corrosion resistance, good weldability, and ductility under heat stress. It is appropriate for extended high-temperature service conditions due to these characteristics.
