For enhanced resistance to corrosion and pitting, stainless steel 317/317L has high concentrations of chromium (18–20%), nickel (11–15%), and molybdenum (3–4%). Low carbon (maximum 0.03%) in the “L” version improves weldability and lowers carbide precipitation during the welding process. These coils have an elongation of 35–40%, a yield strength of 205 MPa, and a tensile strength of roughly 515 MPa. In corrosive conditions and high temperatures, they remain strong and stable. Additionally, 317/317L has outstanding durability and formability, which makes it appropriate for harsh chemical and marine environments.
