Stainless Steel 317L is an austenitic, chromium-nickel-molybdenum alloy with a composition of about 18–20% Chromium, 11–15% Nickel, and 3–4% Molybdenum with less carbon to enhance weldability and immunity to intergranular corrosion. It has good resistance against pitting, crevice corrosion, and chemical attacks, especially in sulfurous, acetic, and phosphoric acid atmospheres. SS 317L has a tensile strength of about 515 MPa, good ductility, and very good mechanical properties even at higher temperatures.
