About 17–19% chromium, 9–12% nickel, and trace amounts of titanium (≥5 times the carbon content) are present in Stainless Steel 321, an austenitic stainless steel stabilised by titanium. After being exposed to high temperatures, this composition improves resistance to intergranular corrosion. The alloy has an approximate elongation of 40%, a yield strength of 205 MPa, and a tensile strength of 515 MPa. At higher temperatures, it maintains its oxidation resistance and mechanical strength. In addition to being non-magnetic when annealed, stainless steel 321 has outstanding formability and weldability, particularly in hot conditions.
