Stainless Steel 348 is a columbium (niobium) stabilized austenitic stainless steel with around 17–19% Chromium and 9–13% Nickel. It is comparable to Stainless Steel 347 but has improved high-temperature stability. The material has good resistance to intergranular corrosion and superior mechanical properties, such as tensile strength of approximately 585 MPa, yield strength of 240 MPa, and elongation of 35%. Such properties suit SS 348 channels to be employed in elevated-temperature applications, where resistance to sensitization and stability during welding are critical requirements.
