This grade is ferritic and cannot be hardened through heat treatment. It boasts a tensile strength of around 450–600 MPa and a yield strength of approximately 240 MPa, along with moderate ductility and good weldability. SS 405 also has a lower risk of grain growth and intergranular corrosion, making it suitable for thermal cycling and environments with moderate corrosion. Its stable structure ensures excellent performance in high-temperature and oxidizing conditions.
