The main component of stainless steel 409 is 10.5–11.75% chromium, with titanium added for improved weldability and corrosion resistance. Strength and formability are balanced because the carbon content is kept to a maximum of 0.08%. It has an approximate yield strength of 170 MPa, a moderate tensile strength of 380–450 MPa, and an elongation of 20%.
