High-carbon martensitic stainless steel 440B has 0.75–0.95% carbon and roughly 16–18% chromium. It has a moderate resistance to corrosion and exceptional hardness. 440B can reach a hardness of up to 58 HRC with the right heat treatment. Mechanical characteristics include a yield strength of about 450 MPa and a tensile strength of about 760 MPa. This grade offers good strength under stress, edge retention, and wear resistance. 440B works well in mildly corrosive environments, particularly when high strength and abrasion resistance are needed, even though it is not as corrosion-resistant as austenitic grades.
