440B Stainless Steel is a high-carbon martensitic stainless steel with around 16–18% Chromium and 0.75–0.95% Carbon. It has a good balance of corrosion resistance with high hardness upon heat treatment. Mechanical properties comprise a tensile strength of up to 760 MPa, yield strength of approximately 450 MPa, and superior wear resistance. It is hardenable using heat treatment and holds a sharp edge well, which makes it well suited for applications that need corrosion protection as well as a hard, wear-resistant surface.
