440C Stainless Steel is a martensitic stainless steel with high carbon content, containing about 16–18% Chromium and 0.95–1.20% Carbon. It can be heat-treated to a very high hardness level (up to 60 HRC) with modest corrosion resistance. The alloy provides a tensile strength of about 760–800 MPa and superior wear resistance. Because of its high carbon content, 440C has exceptional edge retention and compressive strength and is particularly well-suited for precision structural parts.
