Stainless Steel 455 is a martensitic, age-hardenable stainless steel alloy containing around 11–12.5% Chromium, 7.5–9.5% Nickel, and 1.5–2.5% Copper, augmented by Titanium and Molybdenum. It provides good strength-to-weight ratio, tensile strength to 1400 MPa, and good fracture toughness. The alloy may be heat-treated to attain ultra-high strength values with moderate corrosion resistance. SS 455 also has good machinability and shows structural stability under stress, hence finds applications in both static and dynamic load-carrying operations.
