Stainless Steel 904L is an Austenitic stainless steel alloy having high percentages of Chromium (19–23%), Nickel (23–28%), Molybdenum (4–5%), and Copper (1–2%). This material has superior pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking resistance, particularly under harsh environments such as sulfuric acid and seawater. It has tensile strength of approximately 490–710 MPa while its formability, weldability, and toughness are also good even at low temperatures. SS 904L possesses low carbon, which reduces welding sensitization and intergranular corrosion.
